Dog Logic
Dog Logic
By Joe Ducato
When I lay down, I mean it.
That's one of the differences between you and me.
That, and you fancy yourself to be so many things
while I know that I am but a few.
I am the door to the world you only read about in books.
Lay down your pen man! It's not in books.
It's in me.
I am the lightening rod to all those things that stop their dance whenever
you come around.
I am the summer friend who once played catch with you all day long but who
now balances books for a living in San Francisco.
I AM THE GOD OF FROLIC! Make
no bones about it.
I AM THE GOD OF FROLIC!
I am wolf.
To know me is to touch the steps of the ladder with your bare toes.
And if you wonder why I chase birds that I know I can never catch, the answer
is simple. I do it because I must. Do things because you must and happiness
is yours.
And when it's my turn to go back into the Earth, I will not fight it, like
you. I've been closer to it than you from the beginning anyway.
No, when my time comes, I will simply shut my eyes and be no more
and then who will be left
to get between you and that annoying factory whistle at noon?
