Shelter

By Shawen A. Greer

A distant cry,
A broken heart.
Sorrows tears shed alone.
From far away I reach to you
Yet I cannot find you in the darkness.
The darkness of your mind.
My fear is as consuming as your pain.
Tearing at the frail boundary of self-control.
Fate has left no other choice but to wait, and to pray.

Accept the love that surrounds you
In place of the disappointment
That you feel within yourself.
Hold tight to reflection that shines in others
And not the one that deceives you
In clouded mirrors.
Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin
Instead of the chill of night
As it settles deeper in your bones.

In your weakness,
Lean on the strong shoulders
Of those who are willing to share the burden.
Lie down in peaceful slumber
And let dreams surround you.
Encompassed in the sheltering arms that wish to protect you.
Accept the love that is offered
In place of your disappointment.
And, share in the frailty of all, and let us shelter one another.
